"The Best of the Midwest Convention is a gathering of college news journalists and advisers working with print and online media. Associated Collegiate Press prepares about 30 practical learning sessions, including general topic keynotes, problem-solving breakouts and discussion groups. Other convention activities include ACP’s Best of Show contest for general excellence, Best of the Midwest individual contests, a reception, and critiques of student news media."
This conference pertains to Breaking Binaries: Exploring the Diverse Meanings of Journalism in Contemporary Societies. Professor Karin-Wahl Jorgensen from Cardiff University will be keynote speaker at the gathering.
"With the digital takeover, most journalism workshops have concentrated on multimedia inclusion, including analytics, search engine optimization and other ways to attract readers. You’ll hear what’s needed in the evolved newsroom. But what about writing a story? Or producing a competent package? As newsrooms change, the mission -- to do good work -- stays the same."
"Since its beginning as an idea of Alabama professor David Sloan, the Southeast Journalism Conference has worked hard to meet its two original purposes: 1) to encourage greater interest in student journalism and 2) to create closer ties among journalism schools in the Southeast United States."
