Apply to join the College News Network

The College News Network provides student news outlets with a cooperative wire service and the same tools, applications, and standards that they will be using in the professional environment.  The program is currently free of charge to qualifying student media outlets.

To learn more about the platform or to apply, please fill out this form after checking the program criteria.

We'll contact you to discuss the program, answer any questions, and discuss how your student publication can become a part of it.

Eligibility and Criteria

To participate in the College News Network, a student publication must meet all of the following minimum criteria:

  • Be engaged in original news-gathering and reporting using a 100% student staff,
  • Subscribe to a generally accepted journalism ethics policy or journalism code of practice,
  • Maintain an active Student Media Advisor, or Faculty Advisor,
  • Act in the public interest, broadly defined,
  • Maintain media liability insurance coverage for the student publication.

We also ask that applicants commit to participating in regular check-ins (at least monthly) and make student staff available to assist with the integration into your websites.

The Fourth Estate in turn commits to selecting participants that represent a diversity in audience and geography.

We're not just building a journalism platform, we’re building a community of student journalists and collegiate news publishers who will benefit from sharing insights and experiences, not just the sharing of content.
