A Free Press Must Remain Free
June 13, 2017 – The Fourth Estate condemns the censorship of Al-Jazeera by the Arab Gulf States governments. By impeding the functioning of the news organization, Al-Jazeera, the Gulf States have launched an unprecedented attack on the truth and freedom of expression.
The campaign against the “Voice of the Voiceless” is the single-largest direct action taken against Arab free press in recent memory. Against this attack on journalism and free speech the Fourth Estate will not, stay silent.
All free speech, including that that speaks out against the views of the government, has the right to be heard.
For now, Al-Jazeera remains a beacon of the free press in an area of the world that already censors their own news outlets and now seeks to censor the new outlets of other sovereign nations.
